Is the release of Nintendo Switch 2 being pushed back even more than anticipated?

Fans are impatiently waiting for the next Nintendo console. It has now been seven years since the Switch was released. The Japanese video game journey keeps players fidgeting a little longer. You may have to wait another whole year.

When will the Nintendo Switch 2 be released?

Nintendo is slowly breaking the silence about the Switch successor. A few days ago, the gaming publisher announced that an announcement would be made this fiscal year. No later than March 31, 2025 So fans will finally know what the console looks like and what it can do. However, the breadcrumbs thrown out don't explain when the Switch 2 (if that's what it's called) will appear.

The release of the Switch successor could still be a long way off. In an official Q&A, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa talks about sales forecasts for the fiscal year. Overall, Nintendo wants 13.5 million consoles sell. Furukawa explicitly points out that sales of the Switch successor are not taken into account in this figure.

The Nintendo boss later added that the launch period for the new console has not yet been determined. Since it is not mentioned at all in the current forecast, it is reasonable to assume that it will only appear after March 31, 2025. Of course, this is not yet an official confirmation. An alternative explanation would be that the numbers were omitted and the forecast will only be updated after the announcement (Source: Nintendo Q&A translated by GamesIndustry.biz).

These are our wishes for a Nintendo Switch 2:

Nintendo has good reason for the late Switch release

An optimistic scenario would be that the Switch 2 is announced at the end of the year and then appears in April or May 2025. At least Nintendo seems to have one good reason for the late release to have. The console manufacturer apparently wants to avoid the big mistake of the PlayStation 5 and actually ensure that there are enough consoles available at launch.

An insider had already claimed in March that Nintendo was postponing the release of the Switch 2 to 2025 for this reason. Furukawa is now also fully expecting thisthat there will be no shortage of components required for production when the new console is launched.
