Little by little we are getting closer to the return of cinema star Wars. For a long time, Star Wars was not on the big screen, but only on television Disney Plus to see. Projects like “Episode 10” with Daisy Ridley have now disappeared into the galaxy far, far away.
However, you can hear hopeful messages surrounding the film adaptation of The Mandalorian. So it is the successful series whose finale is to take place in the cinema. That's exactly what you choose a superstar for the Alien films brought on board.
Who is Sigourney Weaver?
Undoubtedly heard Sigourney Weaver one of the flagships of the Alien brand. The actress appeared in numerous sci-fi blockbusters in the 70s and 80s. Not surprisingly, the 75-year-old could also appear in the Star Wars cosmos. That's exactly the plan for the Mandalorian movie.
How exactly Weaver will appear here has not yet been announced. Therefore, we still have a lot of room for speculation before the cinema release. This is currently being planned May 20, 2026 as the date for the premiere in German cinemas. Two days later, we're set for release in the United States.
Recently, new rumors surrounding the role of the alien icon have appeared in the media. Behind the latest reports is Jeff Sneider, a film insider and podcaster, an old acquaintance of the scene. The name in particular seems like a mediocre joke at first glance.
Sigourney Weaver in Star Wars
If you believe Sneider, Weaver should play the role of Bishop hatch, a female New Republic colonel with a biblical-sounding name. Weaver seems to have been explicitly planned as an antagonist for the film. And it wouldn't be the first time that the icon behind roles like “Ripley” has come into her own on the dark side of the force.
SFF Gazette throws in The Defenders as an example, a more or less popular Netflix series Marvel Cinematic Universe. At least Weaver didn't have to rely on a church-sounding name that was usually read as male.
According to SFF Gazette, this is probably a reference to the character of the same name in the second Alien film. Maybe there's a little more to the seemingly bizarre choice of name. Ultimately, it remains to be seen when and how with the project continues. When it comes to filming, we're apparently already in the starting blocks.
