Some games have one goal: to twist your brain. Screenbound will be such a game and has already attracted a lot of attention with the first trailer. You play in 3D and 2D at the same timeso to speak, like before, when you held a Gameboy in front of your nose on the way to school.

We explain what is already known about Screenbound and show you the trailer that introduces the unusual concept:

Unusual mix of perspectives

As you can see in the video, you control a 3D and a 2D character through a corresponding world at the same time, the former in first-person view, the latter in side view. On the small game console in front of your virtual eyes, you can only see part of the environment, like in a classic platformer á la Super Mario. When you move around in it, you also take corresponding steps in the 3D environment.

However, in addition to the front and back, there are of course also lateral movements – if you go there, the image on your small monitor changes. The developers call this principle “5D” (because 2 + 3, you know).

Battles should only take place in the 2D environment, but the loot is then lying around in the 3D environment. In addition to the pre-built levels, which are supposed to be full of hidden areas and puzzles, Screenbound will also offer a level editor with which you can build your own 2D worlds – and the game will then translate them into a three-dimensional environment.

The game seems to have quite a bit of 90s and 2000s nostalgia in it.

The game has minimal system requirements and will only be a few MB in size, so it should run without any problems on a Steam deck. It shouldn't be long before the first ones play screenbound reception: running through the 2D world in 2D while you look at a 2D screen and walk through the real world.

When does Screenbound appear? There is still no known release date for the extraordinary platformer. You can play the game on Steam Add it to your wish list and you will be notified as soon as something happens.

This is what the internet says about Screenbound

The game got a lot of attention after the trailer at X (formerly Twitter) was shared, for example by streamer Jake Lucky. Under the much-noticed post, numerous people write that their brains are already in knots. About streamer Kyroh:

My brain hurts just watching.

We at GameStar already have the game for you on our Instagram account showed where it was pretty well received by you – but not everyone wants to play themselves. Rosellablume writes something like:

Sounds interesting, but even the short piece made me dizzy

And fabianhilzinger is looking forward to the maximum multimedia approach:

Can't wait to play a 2D platformer in a 3D platformer and have Instagram and YouTube open at the same time.

Some of you have already pointed out that a similar principle existed in Super Paper Mario from 2007: You can switch between 2D and 3D at the push of a button. How do you like such perspective games? Have you ever tried similar puzzle games like Superliminal, Viewfinder or 3D Chess?
