In Buryatia, the poor quality of medical care in the institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service was stated

The Collegium of the Prosecutor’s Office of Buryatia discussed the results of supervision over the implementation of the legislation on the medical and sanitary provision of suspects, accused and convicts held in the institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service. In 2021-2022, prosecutors identified 195 violations of the law in this area, the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office of Buryatia reported.

It is emphasized that the medical staff of the penitentiary system “does not fully ensure the protection of the health of convicts and detainees, the provision of timely medical care of proper quality to them.” And only as a result of the intervention of the prosecutor’s office, measures were taken to bring medical offices and hospitals into proper sanitary condition, and assistance was provided to convicts in the treatment and diagnosis.

– As a result of the consideration of the acts of the prosecutor’s response, 16 officials were brought to disciplinary responsibility, 2 – to administrative responsibility, – the press service of the prosecutor’s office of Buryatia commented.

At the meeting of the board, a set of measures was developed aimed at increasing the effectiveness of prosecutorial supervision in the field of protecting the health of citizens in correctional institutions. We add that the provision of medical care in the institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service is carried out by a specialized healthcare institution – the Medical and Sanitary Unit No. 3 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.
