The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered was released for the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 29, 2026. Anyone who still owns the game as a physical complete edition for the old Switch will get the remaster for free and it’s included an unexpected bonus.
The Witcher 3: Trick makes the game free on Switch 2
The process is simple: insert The Witcher 3 game module from the old Switch version into the Switch 2 and then download the remaster for free from the Nintendo eShop. Once the download is complete, the game will run entirely from the console’s internal storage or a MicroSD Express card. The game module no longer needs to be plugged in afterwards.
Unlike PS5 or Xbox, where the disc must be permanently in the drive as proof of license, the game starts on the Switch 2 without the module. Reddit users reported that they and family members were able to use the same cartridge for the download.
This opens up a practical possibility: you can use the old Switch game module After downloading, sell, lend or simply give away. The only catch is the storage requirement: The remaster takes up around 50 GB on the Switch 2. If you are short on capacity, you should create space in advance or have a MicroSD Express card ready.
