A powerful Heat

It was in 1995 that Michael Mann made cinema history with Heat: a true gangster film, yes, but also a cop film and featuring an absolutely edifying game of cat and mouse. Adapted from a television film by Michael Mann also released in 1989, the feature film is one of the great classics of mafia films, action films and the Seventh Art in general. In 2008, Empire magazine ranked it 38th on its list of “The 500 Best Films of All Time”. So certainly, around fifteen years have passed in the meantime, but the work remains engraved in stone.

It was also a commercial success with no less than 187 million dollars at the box office: in short, a legend of the Seventh Art who has also known an official sequel (also a prequel at the same time), named Heat 2 in 2022… but in the form of a novel. And always signed Michael Mann! Note that'a real Heat 2 film is currently in development and should soon appear.

Last heist

Heat is history of a team of bank robbers led by a ruthless leader, Neil, played by a formidable Robert de Niro. In front of him and his teammates (including Val Kilmer), a muscular and tenacious police lieutenant, played by Al Pacino. Already at the time, a De Niro / Pacino duel in a gangster film was a form of consecration.

A thriller which will have largely influenced pop culture even in video games, Grand Theft Auto V not lacking obvious references: in short, if you wish to see or rewatch Heat and that you have a Netflix subscription, know that it will no longer be available on the platform on June 1, 2024. In other words, you have until Friday May 31 to take advantage of it!
