» Watch video: Played Star Fox and almost finished it
The Star Fox flies onto the Nintendo Switch 2 – we were already able to try out the game.
Nintendo is giving Fox McCloud a new adventure for the Switch 2. Well, it’s not that new. It is a remake of Star Fox 64, which was originally released in 1997. Personally, I don’t care because I only knew Fox and Falco from Super Smash Bros. before. That’s why the new space hit honestly surprised me in several places.
Star Fox is short – but also not
Star Fox for the Switch 2 isn’t a long game on paper. Even with the detailed tutorial, I was able to complete almost half of a run in the short playing time. So why pay 60 euros for the game?
The secret of Star Fox is that it can be completed in many different ways. In the missions, secret mission objectives or exits are waiting to be discovered. As a result, Team Star Fox takes a different route through the Lylat star system, which in turn unlocks completely new missions and bosses.
In this way, there is a lot of replayability hidden in Star Fox. Of course, the prerequisite for this is that you don’t already know the entire game from before.

The Nintendo Switch 2 can shine
However, the new console itself is also a good reason to buy Star Fox. Although the game is not an absolute graphics dazzler (there are always muddy textures), it still makes a very good overall impression. There are many details and effects in space and on the planets that make the dogfights feel really powerful and action-packed.

What else is in Star Fox?
Star Fox also has a few smaller gimmicks to offer. This means you can also experience the entire game in co-op mode. One player controls the Arwing while another takes over the weapons (the Switch 2’s mouse mode is also used here). The mode is a nice pastime for a bit of co-op wrangling with friends, but it’s more fun to be able to control the entire ship.
A real highlight was the multiplayer mode. Here we were able to jump into a 4 vs. 4 battle. The aim is to knock as many enemies out of the sky as possible and conquer certain points on the map. Bonus weapons such as rockets or even a super laser can be picked up along the way. The whole thing is far from a flight simulation, but still very entertaining fun.

Martin Hartmann (own opinion):
So is Star Fox worth it?
In my short time with Star Fox so far, the game has been a lot of fun. Anyone who likes fast-paced space battles will have a lot of fun with the single-player campaign. At the same time, multiplayer could also tickle the competitive nerve of many players.
Nevertheless, one truth remains: Star Fox remains Star Fox. So if you already know the game inside out, you have to think carefully about whether you want to pay another 60 euros for better graphics.
