I Burst Out Laughing at the Ridiculousness of This New Steam Game Featuring Nuns

Indika is the strangest game I've come across in a long time. And if the trailer with the crazy nuns and fever dream music doesn't convince you, then I don't know what will. I played the demo on Steam and was extremely pleasantly surprised.

In Indika you are a nun accompanied by the devil

Indika looks amazing and made me laugh, which not many games can do. The Fever dream game with very dark humor is published by 11 bit studios, the makers of quite a few good games – the Frostpunk series, for example. Before the demo, I had hoped that there would be something more to it than a meme game – and I was by no means disappointed.

First, watch the trailer. You will not regret it:

It's all about this: In Indika you take on the role of a nun in an alternative Russia who is on a journey of self-discovery. She accompanies you the devil himself, as Steam reveals. That the game is somehow surreal and quite humorous, you can experience the demo for free on Steam: Here you control Indika through cold Russia while a young man with a frozen arm accompanies you. He tells you that he heard God in a cup and was chosen – which doesn't impress Indika much (or me either).

Graphically, Indika is surprising realistic and clearwhile that Pixelated menu reminiscent of old school games. This particularly stands out because you can see numbers in the top left corner that show you in pixel form when you have collected enough points for the next level. Every time you read, look at or collect (mostly religious) objects, you get points – which is just as bizarre and crazy as it sounds.

I had to laugh out loud when I was allowed to choose a new level: The two options were “Penance” (you get a chance for extra points when you collect points) and “Guilt” (you get a lot of points at once). That Indika herself deliciously amused by religion and faith, should be clear by now. I quite liked it, but such humor may not be for everyone.

Indika is scheduled to be released for PS5 and PC in the second quarter of 2024. Check out the demo on Steam for a first taste!
