Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro – Smooth, feature-packed, great value for money

Affordable but without a really good notification response from the watch

Already the predecessor was versatile and flexible, but now Huawei has both added new functions and made the watch itself better and more luxurious.

The Fit series is the one of Huawei’s watch families that is best suited to attract as wide a target group as possible. They, this model, like its predecessors, has a flexible format, a low price, in this case around SEK 3,000 for the Pro model we are testing here and SEK 2,000 for the simpler base model Watch Fit 5.

In the last year, Huawei has got its service for mobile payments in place, so the Fit 5 series can be used to make payments in stores without having to carry your mobile. It works smoothly and thanks to a collaboration with Curve, pretty much all payment cards work.

Flexible in all situations

When I see and feel the Watch Fit 5 Pro, it is comfortable and flexible. The screen is larger and with thin edges around, so it is easy to read without the clock being too large. This is good during training sessions, in everyday life and not least when I sleep with the watch on. The included soft woven wristband is also comfortable. I have noticed in many watch tests I have done that a comfortable bracelet is of the utmost importance and can determine how you perceive a watch. In this case, the bracelet contributes to the positive overall view and it dries quickly when I shower or bathe.

Huawei watches, including this one, work with either IOS or Android phone, the Huawei Health app that takes care of everything is available for both systems. It may seem unnecessary, I mean why bother with Android support if you have an iPhone and vice versa, but in any case it means that you are not locked into an ecosystem and can choose your phone freely the next time it’s time to change.

Many training sessions before the battery needs to be charged

During the entire month I tested the Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro, I managed to register about 30 training sessions, mostly running and walking. At times during this period, I have also used other watches in parallel, and then the Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro has kept pace in virtually all measurements, from heart rate to GPS precision. When I compared with the latest Apple Watch, the number of steps has often been almost identical. However, one area where Huawei beats most is battery life. The Fit 5 Pro is supposed to have a battery life of up to 10 days before it needs charging, but I’ve been quite active and rather got about a week’s battery life out of it. An hour of running with GPS and measuring pulse and so on takes about 4 percent of the battery, and a day, including training sessions, usually takes about 12-13 percent of the battery.

The watch is charged wirelessly from the included charger or any standard wireless charger.

In addition to detailed training reports for walking, running, cycling and diving, there is also Huawei’s golf mode, where you get both course and driving range mode, where the course mode has detailed maps of courses both in Sweden and abroad. Other sports among the around 100 that are supported are triathlon, skiing, yoga, core training, various dances, padel, football, badminton, yes you will find most of it simply. Via the Huawei Health app, I can share training sessions with, for example, Strava and thus compare myself and be encouraged by friends and family who do not use a Huawei watch.

Mini workout in the office chair

In addition to the usual training sessions, the watch has a cute little panda that in animated form motivates you who sit still at your desk most of the day. If I have been sitting still for a long time, I get a reminder and a small mini-training session. It can be heel lifts, getting out of the chair with my arms, stretching the upper body or something like that. It becomes a more playful and fun way to not stiffen up than the usual “you haven’t been up for an hour” reminders we recognize from other watches.

Huawei’s watches in this Fit 5 series do not have e-SIM and the support for, for example, playing music in the watch or responding to notifications directly in the watch is missing when it is connected to an iPhone and is limited in Android. However, in addition to usual things such as calendar, weather, voice recording and navigation, the watch can also measure a number of aspects of heart health. Pulse, of course, we’ve covered that, but also EKG stiffness in the arteries, oxygen content in the blood and it can also monitor your breathing while you sleep.

In the app on your phone, or for that matter on your watch, you can then get conclusions and longer-term trends in the important areas of exercise, sleep and health. The Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro is flexible and versatile, where Huawei has also refined the hardware, with a larger screen, good brightness and both exclusive and practical materials despite a relatively low price.
