Huawei Matepad 11.5 S – Papermatte screen and own app for creativity

It is about a tablet where creation and the screen itself are at the center. This matte screen means that the tablet can be used for creation and for reading both in bright sunlight outdoors and in bright lighting indoors without being bothered by reflections or glare. Above all, I notice the lack of light scattering from the surroundings when I test the tablet indoors with spotlights all around, but then the screen type is not only an advantage. The experience is different if I angle the screen, just like a regular piece of paper, and therefore I don't get the same sharp even light as from a regular OLED screen.

The creation is conveniently done with the pen and it gives a good pressure feeling. Thin line if I press loosely against the screen, thicker the harder I press. The pen charges wirelessly and magnetically from the edge of the tablet, but it requires me to place it in exactly the right place, otherwise nothing happens. It is particularly fussy precisely with the placement for it to work.

In order for the pen and the creation to be useful here, of course apps are required and there Huawei is still focused on Harmony OS and its own app store Appgallery.

The Gopaint app therefore receives at least as much attention as the plate itself. It is a new app that Huawei developed themselves and whose development resources would be enough to create an entire tablet. Now they chose instead to put the resources on this particular software, in order to position themselves within creativity and add areas of use to the plate. We are also testing the Huawei Notes app where you can take more traditional notes. However, it is Gopaint that is the main number and that app provides a very large number of possibilities and tools. I try to draw with different brushes and in addition to what I do directly with the pen, there is also a long list of other tools that make shading and other effects. I see that not least in the examples created by professional artists rather than what I manage to create myself.

An obstacle when I create and a problem that I think most people will encounter is that there are countless tools crammed into an interface that looks like it was made for computer and mouse, with very small touch surfaces and poor overview. It puts obstacles in the way of creative creation.

There is no information about a Swedish launch for the Huawei Matepad 11.5 S. However, the new headphones Freebuds 6i which will arrive in June with improved noise reduction and a new variant of the smart watch Huawei Watch 4 Pro Space Edition were also shown.
