How to Run Resident Evil Village on Almost Any iPhone

With the release of the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple decided to jump into gaming and even announced several cool ports from large consoles, including Hideo Kojima’s hit Death Stranding, the recently released Assassin’s Creed Mirage and two parts of Resident Evil.

Recently, the title from Capcom Resident Evil Village became available to owners of new flagships, but what should all other fans of the series do? Colleagues from Rozetted shared a useful guide that allows you to run incompatible games on older iPhones. As part of the test, they managed to play Resident Evil Village without lags or other glitches on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which is very impressive.

Apparently, Apple slightly bent with the “exclusives” of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max on the A17 Pro, since even the old A15 Bionic plays these games quite well.

Instructions

To install the game you need an iPhone with iOS 17.1 and a Mac or PC running Windows. You can’t do without a computer.

In case of Mac, you will need to install the Homebrew utility through the terminal. Open the Terminal application and enter the command:

/bin/bash -c “$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)”

In the next step, enter your macOS account password and press Enter.

Now you need to enter the following commands into the “Terminal”, indicating your username:

(echo; echo ‘eval “$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)”‘) >> /Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/.zprofile
eval “$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)”

Then install the utility for downloading signed IPA files IPATool:

brew tap majd/repo brew install ipatool

At this point, you need to sign in to your Apple ID account (it must match the one used on the iPhone):

ipatool auth login -e iCloud -p Password
*(instead of iCloud and Password, enter your values)

If your Apple ID is protected by two-factor authentication, enter the code from another gadget. Also give Terminal access to Keychain Access and a password for your local Mac account.

The appearance of the inscription success=true indicates that everything was successful.

We’re almost at the finish line. Enter the command:

ipatool purchase -b jp.co.capcom.VillageUSios

And start the download:

ipatool download -b jp.co.capcom.VillageUSios

Next, find your IPA file in Finder and send it via AirDrop to iPhone with iOS 17.1. After some time, the game will be transferred to your smartphone and installed. This is victory!

The guide was tested on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Most likely, Resident Evil Village will also launch on the iPhone 12 Pro, but not on older models.

In just 15 minutes of playing, the iPhone 13 Pro Max was discharged by 7%, while it got quite hot, so there is every chance of killing the battery in a month of active gaming.

The second option is for installation with Windows you will need a utility IPATools With Github. You launch it through the “Command Line” (cmd), and then enter the same commands as listed in the column about macOS. To transfer the file, you will need a second gadget on iOS (drop the game onto it into the cart, and then AirDrop to your smartphone).

As a result we see, that the super-powerful A17 Pro chip is not at all needed to run games of this level, and Apple has artificially limited the installation of titles on older iPhones.
