If you’ve upgraded to macOS Ventura, you may have noticed that if you type a space twice, you’ll get a dot automatically dialing itself.
Some users may like automatic dot entry after double-pressing the spacebar, but many Mac users who code, script, or write professionally may find it annoying to automatically enter dots with a space.

How to stop automatic dot entry in macOS Ventura using double space
Here’s how you can disable automatic dot entry with double space on macOS Ventura or newer:
- Go to the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
- Scroll down the list and select Keyboard.
- Locate the “Text Input” section for “Input Sources” and click the “Edit” button next to that
- Find the “Add period with double space” toggle and turn it off.
- Click Done
Now, when you double-click the spacebar, the Mac will no longer auto-type a period.
This is for macOS Ventura 13 or later, as stopping automatic point input in earlier versions of macOS is also possible and probably much easier.But like many other things in macOS Ventura and the new and confusing system settings, you may not know how to find this setting or turn it off in macOS Ventura 13 or later, and obviously many users have a hard time finding it.
Why the option to add a dot with a double space is on the Edit button next to Input Sources is a mystery, but it seems to be yet another gift of confusion in the macOS Ventura system settings experience.
