Honor – what happened?

I was a little questioning to those who claimed that the Oppo Find N6 that was recently shown would be “peak foldable”, i.e. some kind of new golden standard, a perfect product. That Oppo would claim that was no surprise, however, they are biased, so to speak. The presentation was that this was a no-compromise phone. They admitted that their previous phones had flaws, but that they were now fixed. Above all, Oppo talked about an almost invisible fold in the middle of the foldable screen.

But now this was supposed to be about Honor. Because during the presentation of the Oppo Find N6, I had already had the Honor Magic V6 presented to me and thus compared every specification of the Oppo as they were presented and the Honor was superior on almost every point. The thin design, many of the specifications, above all the battery capacity.

However, the presentation of the Honor Magic V6 during the MWC fair was extremely disorganized. Actual information could not be obtained or confirmed. On stage the phone looked finished, but much else was chaos. I didn’t get any prices or full specifications, but my impression then and there was that Honor showed the most impressive thing at MWC Barcelona. Foldable Honor Magic V6 was not alone. Here was also, behind a sea of other journalists on site, the Honor Robot Phone, a playful experiment that you could easily think was just a gimmick, but which was stated to be a real product that will be released later this year.

And it was just that, this with later this year. Because when the dust settled after the fair, it turned out that the Honor Magic V6 was not at all imminent to go on sale. Instead, it will come sometime in the latter half of 2026. It surprised me, but at the same time it is nothing unusual. It occurs. Other examples of the same are the Xiaomi 17 series. Because the Honor Magic V6 is already sold in China, although it will take several months before it arrives here. The same was true of the Xiaomi 17 series.

The basic rule in the mobile industry is otherwise to keep upcoming mobiles secret as long as possible, so as not to reduce the sales of existing models. If people know that there will be a sequel soon, they can avoid the current product and instead wait.

The Xiaomi 17 series was already presented in September 2025, followed by the Ultra model on Christmas Day and I naively thought then that it would come soon, but it was delayed until the MWC fair months away.

It’s almost like the Honor Magic V6 belongs at MWC 2027, rather than at this year’s show.
