Hi-Fi Rush: After the studio closes: review bombing, but in a good way

The news hit like a drum a few days ago: Microsoft is killing four Bethesda studios, including Tango Gameworks. The horror experts around Shinji Mikami surprisingly released Hi-Fi Rush at the beginning of 2023, which was completely out of line. After the studio closed, the title received massive review bombing on Steam – but not in the way you think.

The ludography from Tango Gameworks is quite interesting. In addition to horror titles like The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, Hi-Fi Rush is also a brightly colored action adventure with a focus on rhythm. The latter title was released as Shadowdrop in early 2023 and quickly became a fan and critic favorite.

As is often the case, Hi-Fi Rush didn't really do well financially. Whether this is the reason why Microsoft decided to close Tango Gameworks and three other Bethesda studios this week is anyone's guess.

In any case, fans are now somewhere between sad and angry that Tango had to close. This is now reflected in review bombings of Hi-Fi Rush on Steam. But before you get upset about the supposedly stupid community, let us calm you down. Because the reviews are consistently positive!

There are often few charming words for Microsoft and great regret for Tango and all other closed studios. The following review sums up the sentiment well: “Hi-Fi Rush was the best game Xbox released in over a decade, it won awards and everyone loved it. Microsoft's answer is to close the studio and that sucks. It 1000 percent worth playing Hi-Fi Rush, please buy this game and experience one of the best character action titles I'm afraid it won't be available in the future because of the licensed music and Microsoft won't “Tango, Arkane Austin and everyone affected doesn't deserve this.”

At least there is a small ray of hope for fans of Shinji Mikami. Because the Resident Evil creator has launched a new studio, Kamuy. Some ex-employees of Tango Gameworks are probably following him.
