Gotta kill John Connor! Gotta kill John Connor! The commands of pretty much every Terminator from the legendary cult film series of the same name by director James Cameron are like this or something similar.

And even if the last two evening fillers in the franchise Genisys (2015) and Dark Fate (2019) don't really represent any cinematic milestones, so the series about the killing machines from the future has never really lost its appeal.

This was probably not least because over the years there have been a number of good video games that have taken us back to the post-nuclear apocalyptic world of Terminator, most recently the shooter Terminator: Resistance in 2019.

With Terminator: Survivors The series should now get new flesh on the old robot skeleton.

Survivors does survival

Interestingly, the new spin-off is not about the fate of John Connor, but lets you take your own path: As survivors of the apocalypse, you explore the devastated USA after the day of reckoning.

The open-world survival game is in 2009 Original timeline of the first two Terminator films written by James Cameron. Fans who didn't like the newfangled bells and whistles of the newer films should get their money's worth here.

With Survivors, the developers from the French studio Nacon want to capture the ruthlessness of the Terminator world. And at the same time stay true to the established Terminator lore.

Arnie is on your heels

To do this, the developers send a T-800 after you! According to the official timeline, in 2009 Skynet's production capacities had not yet been ramped up to the point where they could produce these highly complex machines in large numbers.

But you should by no means underestimate this unity. The T-800 is an outstanding adversary, designed solely for the purpose of finding and… terminating its targets.

As in the first two Terminator films, players should get the torturous feeling that being hunted by a relentless and terrifying killer who can't be stopped and talking is futile. However, it is not yet known how this feeling of persecution will be reflected in the gameplay.

What else do we know?

Terminator: Survivors is scheduled to be released on October 24, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game is created in Unreal Engine 5 and, according to developer Nacon, can be played purely offline.

There will also be a beta phase in the summer where you can check out the game for yourself.
