Halo comparisons make for statement from Arrowhead boss

“Helldivers 2” is sometimes compared to the Xbox shooter “Halo”. Arrowhead boss Johan Pilestedt responded to such a tweet with a conciliatory comment.

“Helldivers 2” was played by up to 431,621 simultaneous Steam users last weekend. A new record was not achieved. However, only around 27,000 players were missing. The cooperative shooter is currently in fifth place among the most played Steam titles – ahead of “Palworld”, whose hype has died down significantly a few weeks after launch.

Whether “Helldivers 2” can attract players in the long term remains to be seen. It is also unclear how many players are playing the PS5 version of the shooter. What is certain, however, is that it is an exclusive title on the consoles and even the Xbox boss Phil Spencer seems interested.

“Halo Infinite” doesn’t seem to fill the gap. The shooter is also available on Steam and only had around 7,000 simultaneous players in the past 24 hours – despite free-to-play multiplayer.

Arrowhead boss finds Halo comparisons unnecessary

“Halo” was also the subject of a tweet from Johan Pilestedt, head of “Helldivers 2” developer Arrowhead Game Studios. He is critical of comparisons with other shooters.

With his comment, the CEO refers to the tweet of another Twitter / is.”

Pilestedt responded to the user's tweet and raised the question of why the shooters should be compared in such a judgmental way.

“Why compare? Just let players love and enjoy both, either one or the other. We need more compassion and unity in the world and less rivalry,” said the head of Arrowhead Game Studios.

One follower then replied: “A little friendly rivalry can be a great thing. But she should remain friendly.”

Pilestedt agreed with this statement, but also emphasized that there are limits: “That’s true. Also in business. Neither monopoly nor cutthroat competition makes the world a better place.”

But the creator of the original post also followed up: “You are great, but Halo was still DECIMATED by Helldivers.”

Competition, cooperation

The rivalries in the video game industry are now harder to define. Before Microsoft took over Activision-Blizzard, the Redmond company announced that “Call of Duty” remains on PlayStation consoles and Nintendo players will also be able to enjoy the shooters. The last part only came to a metascore of 56but still sells brilliantly.

In addition, some of the previous Xbox exclusive games will be released for the PS5 and Switch. The previous strategy of supporting players exclusively on their own platform is gradually being softened.

ON THE SUBJECT:

Sony is apparently preparing for this too next PlayStation game for PC. And who knows, maybe “Helldivers 2” or the next part will one day be playable on an Xbox, as always Whatever the Redmond hardware strategy looks like.
