PC gamers still have a long wait for GTA 6.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to be released on November 19, 2026 after several postponements. If you don’t own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, you’ll have to wait even longer. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick now explains why in an interview with Bloomberg: Rockstar has always done it that way and PC gamers are simply not the “core target group”.
That’s why GTA 6 doesn’t appear on the PC
Developer Rockstar would always release games on consoles first because such a big release would be measured by how well it serves that core audience. If the core target group is not there and if they are not served “first and best”, other customers would not be reached either.
That’s why GTA 6 really doesn’t appear on the PC
Long-time GTA players on the PC probably won’t be happy that Take-Two is simply sending them to the second row. What may be even more important for the company, however, is that PC gamers simply aren’t spending enough money.
Player numbers and weekly revenue for GTA Online are significantly behind those of PS5 and Xbox Series X (and even behind PS4 and Xbox One). So Take-Two and Rockstar have a good reason why they target the most profitable gamers first.
But why not just take the PC players’ money with you? Zelnick had previously said that the PC market was becoming increasingly important and that it would not be difficult to support it.
Here too, the reason is simple: double purchases. GTA 6 is said to be the “most spectacular entertainment experience in the world”. This should also persuade PC gamers to buy a console to experience the game as quickly as possible. When the PC version is subsequently released, there will be many customers who will simply buy the game again. So Take-Two sells the same game twice.
