GTA 5: Mod developers dare to advance – first successes towards a Nintendo Switch version

The source code of GTA 5 has been floating around the internet for a while now, so it's not surprising if the material is used for experiments in one place or another.

A group of Mod developers recently showed again what can be achieved with the available resources. With a little programming magic they can even bring GTA 5 on the Nintendo Switch. [GUI_KALTURA_VIDEO(entryid=0_ehzkk860,title=,description=,width=,height=,layoutmode=feature)]

Modders develop prototypes of a GTA 5 version for the Switch and then suddenly go into hiding

Information about Rockstar's incredibly popular Grand Theft Auto series is in such demand that particularly nefarious fans even turn to crime to gain insight behind the curtain. Such a case happened at the end of last year, when the source code for the latest offshoot was leaked from the development studio in a homage to the big GTA 6 leaks. This could happen when it spread online Modder team Superstar South Gain access and then began implementing his own project.

Their goal was to get Grand Theft Auto 5 running on the Nintendo Switch, which wasn't an easy task for them. The console isn't exactly known for quickly manufactured ports and technical excellence, which is why an extremely complex game like GTA 5 will certainly have problems working smoothly on the platform. This can also be seen in a demonstration of Superstar South's successes so far, which they share with the community on Twitter: Sloppy graphics and FPS drops make it difficult to follow the clip. But a rough transfer seems to be possible for them and, according to the modders, the direct hardware output should also be more bearable.

Obviously you want to at least see how far we got…

It is not clear how things will continue for the modders from here. Shortly before they uploaded the video, they announced no more posts want to do. According to them, this decision was not made as a result of legal action against them, but was the result of their own considerations. A few days later, an update follows in which Superstar South asks her followers to stop asking about Discord access or their current progress, both no updates consequences. The description “inactive” is also emblazoned under her profile on Twitter.

Whether all of this indicates that their efforts to bring GTA 5 to the Nintendo Switch have dried up, or just a cessation of public communication, remains uncertain. Many of the commentators at least seem to agree with the statements made so far to be seen as the final end and ask the modders to pass on their work to complete it. We may only receive news about this project in the future. What is almost certainly still to come is the release of GTA 6, about which we have compiled all the known information for you.
