The redesigned DCU is currently preparing for a major attack on the seemingly overpowering competitor Marvel. Is even a well-known Hollywood star returning for this?
The starting signal for the completely revamped DCU was only recently given. The animated series “Creature Commandos” showed many skeptics and doubters: The extremely good ratings The trade press and fans speak very clearly.
But that should only be the beginning, because there will be more promising films and series on the program over the next few years – perhaps even with the return of a star from “Deadpool”?
Is Ryan Reynolds making his comeback in the DCU?
It has been known since the summer of this year at the latest that under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, among others the live-action series “Lanterns” is created. As the name suggests, the iconic superhero “Green Lantern” and his comrades are the focus of the action. Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”) and Chris Mundy (“Ozark”) are primarily responsible for the project as showrunners. Aaron Pierre (“Rebel Ridge”) and Garret Dillahunt (“Deadwood”) have also already been confirmed as actors.
For some time now there has been speculation about a possible comeback Ryan Reynolds. As is well known, this was in the mercilessly flopped film “Green Lantern” from 2011 in this iconic role.
The star wants this chapter out “Deadpool & Wolverine” but definitely leave it behind. His answer to the question about a possible return was correspondingly clear. It was asked – although not 100 percent seriously – by the new DCU mastermind James Gunn. On the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast He reported Reynolds' violent reaction.
Here’s what it said: “Ryan doesn’t care. One of the first people I talked to after I got this job was Ryan Reynolds. I asked him 'Are you going back?!' and he responded with 'Fuck off!'”
It should therefore be clear that Ryan Reynolds is unlikely to make a comeback in the role of a DC superhero in the foreseeable future – if at all.
But even without the current Marvel star, the redesigned DCU should be in an excellent position. This is what it says for July 11, 2025 the big premiere of the new “Superman” on the program, where for the first time no longer fan favorite Henry Cavill, but his successor David Corenswet will slip into the role of the iconic hero.
Milly Alcock will also appear “House of the Dragon” try out as the new Supergirl. According to current plans, the film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
