GIMP 2.10.38 has been launched – check out the latest graphics editor release

Published graphics editor GIMP 2.10.38. Packages for installation are published in the format flatpak (a package in the format will also be prepared in the near future snap). The release includes bug fixes and minor improvements. It is noted that the transfer of new features to the 2.10 branch has been stopped, and all efforts to increase functionality are focused on preparing the GIMP 3 branch, which is frozen before release and at the final stage of preparing a release candidate. It is likely that GIMP 2.10.38 will be the last release in the 2.10 branch, but it is possible that after the release of GIMP 3.0.0 another release of GIMP 2.10.40 will be formed, containing only bug fixes.

Some of the changes in GIMP 2.10.38 include:

  • Some features that solve existing problems have been transferred from the GTK3 branch to GTK2. For example, the size of the buttons in the print dialog has been changed (the problem with cutting off the edges of the buttons has been resolved), the display of pop-up dialogs has been adjusted (the problem with new dialogs being displayed behind existing ones has been resolved), and corrections have been included in the keyboard input handler.
  • The build for the Windows platform has improved support for graphics tablets. Added support for using not only the old WinTab drivers, but also the new Windows Ink drivers, which solved problems with broken buttons, incorrect pressure sensitivity, freezing when moving the brush and changing position when drawing. Support is provided by porting code with Windows Ink API support from GTK3 to GTK2.

  • Accumulated errors have been fixed. Among other things, we have fixed issues causing crashes when exiting and when working with very small selections of areas. Fixed an issue with color distortion when exporting to PNG format with an indexed palette with transparency. Corrected valid ranges for some filters such as Waves and Distort. Added support for UTF-8 characters to the header settings function. Fixed comments added to a previous image leaking into new images.
