Get Ready for the May 2024 Release: Expect Carnage

Message to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. The month of May 2024 promises to be the most painful. Excellent games are leaving the service and in numbers.

Almost two years already since the PS Plus got a facelift. The subscription service welcomed two small news: the Extra and Premium plans. Month after month, they take shape more and more thanks to two catalogs which continue to grow. April 2024 also brought a breath of fresh air by offering not one, but three games as soon as they were launched on PlayStation. Many hope that the Japanese manufacturer will continue this momentum and that it will mark the start of a change which would allow the service to fully compete with its competitor which does not skimp on this type of initiative. One thing is certain, Sony will have a heavy hand next month. The PS Plus Extra releases for May 2024 have indeed been revealed, it's a massacre.

PS Plus Extra releases for May 2024

The disaster scenario of last year will repeat itself. May 2023 was very bitter for PS Plus Extra and Premium members with more than 35 games leaving the service. Among them, some renowned licenses like Batman Arkham, Injustice, Marvel's Spider-Man or even Metro to name a few. An isolated case, but the carnage will resume with a vengeance, exactly one year later. Sony has indeed revealed the list of PS Plus Extra departures from May 2004 with no less than 25 games which will leave the service this May 21st. It is especially RPG lovers who will be upset since Square Enix is going to do the big spring cleaning.

In total, seven games from the Final Fantasy license will leave next month. This includes classics from PS1, PS2, as well as FF15 and the cute spin-off World of Final Fantasy. You will have to be very motivated to even just finish everyone's story. Count at least 293h for all games, or 12 days non-stop… and we’re not talking about platinum! Fans of independent productions will also see some great games since Devolver Digital and Annapurna Interactive will also remove a handful of their products from PS Plus Extra.

Less time-consuming, but just as excellent, The Messenger will also leave the service in May 2024. The first game from the creators of Sea of Stars has established itself as one of the best independent productions of recent years, so it's now or never if you haven't tried it yet. Depending on your dexterity, the game will take you around fifteen hours.
