Get Ready for an Exciting Announcement!

As promised by Warner Bros Picture a few days ago, here is the long-awaited trailer for Joker 2: Folie à deux with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.

The first movie Joker didn't necessarily call for a sequel, but faced with its success, director Todd Phillips got back to work. As a result, three years later, in 2022, Joker 2: Folie à deux was announced with a simple image of the cover of the script. Since then, the feature film has deliberately maintained a large part of mystery, before production began the second with new images of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Before its release on October 2, 2024 in cinemas, the film broadcasts official extracts.

Joker 2 finally reveals its first trailer

Joker 2: Folie à deux will not be a sequel like any other, and that is what has been the talk of the town for several months now. Indeed, the feature film has been described on numerous occasions as being a musical comedy. A point that the director of photography, Lawrence Sher, qualified during an interview. “ It's not a musical per se, there's just music. The music is part of the film and the characters, but I don't know if it's a musical “.

According to Variety's sources, Joker 2 will give an even more important place to music with “at least 15 reinterpretations of well-known, well-known songs”. The American magazine notably cites “That's Entertainment” from the musical “The Band Wagon”. A risky bet? We can finally get a first idea with the official trailer which has just been posted online. From the start, music is indeed at the center of the trailer and even the story. “We use it to rebuild ourselves. To compensate for the cracks that are in us » explains Arthur Fleck with a cover of What The World Needs Is Love in the background.

Despite the more musical part, Joker 2: Folie à deux will be a continuation of the previous part and will also see the return of certain members of the casting and production. Zazie Beetz, who played Arthur Fleck's neighbor, is back and will be joined by Catherine Keener (Brand New Cherry Flavor on Netflix) and Brendan Gleeson (Gangs of New York). In addition to director Todd Phillips and cinematographer, Hildur Guðnadóttir returns to the soundtrack.

A more violent R-Rated film

For this sequel, Todd Phillips chose an iconic location: Arkham Asylum. Part of the scenes from Joker 2: Folie à deux will take place there, and will therefore show the meeting between Arthur Fleck and the future Harley Quinn… who is no longer a psychiatrist as we can see, but a patient of Arkham.

According to other information collected by Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures would have broken the bank to offer a colossal budget of 200 million for the film. For comparison, the previous one only cost 55 million and brought in more than a billion dollars. But this is not the only risk taken by the company. Joker: Folie à deux received an R-Rated rating in the United States due to violent sequences, foul language and brief scenes of nudity. Therefore, not everyone will be able to have access to it. A problem ? Not really since Joker was already R-Rated on American soil, and that didn't stop it from being a monstrous hit.
