In Woods might look like a simple game on the surface, but don’t be fooled. Under the surface it bubbles with depth and boasts a gameplay loop that could ensnare anyone.
Let’s have a look at why we think this game may well become a sleeper indie hit on Steam in the months to come.

Tale of Survival

Part of the core appeal of In Woods is its simple gameplay objective – survive. You’re dropped into lush grasslands, and face a number of foes to defend yourself against.
If you don’t, you have to start from scratch. But there are ways to stay alive of course, mainly via working out how best to use your environment to your advantage.
So there are a number of materials you can grab in the game, and you’ll want to snatch up everything you see – as you can then craft this into helping improve your health, attack power, and pick-up radius.
These powers stay with you once you’ve died of course, so you always come back stronger on your next attempt.
Come Back Stronger

Helping on repeat runs are the vast array of items you can equip too, and there are also bonuses up for grabs if you survive beyond a specific amount of time.
Then there are Magic Cards, which can alter the gameplay in significant ways. To tell you of any of them would be to ruin the surprise though.
There is a final boss to face though, which is unusual in a roguelite. But you’ll have to have fully mastered the game to catch a glimpse of them.
What Are You Waiting For?

Despite being a roguelite there’s plenty to get your teeth into long term too, with 60 Steam achievements to unlock.
So we think In Woods has all the ingredients to be an indie sensation, and is well worth taking a look at – you can find it on Steam right now here.
