The Game Awards 2024 are just around the corner. But what would the winners look like if you were to go by their ratings on Metacritic?
As every year, this December there are again Game Awards to. The show by and with Geoff Keighley will once again feature lots of announcements, world premieres and a whole host of awards.
Around 30 prizes will be awarded on the evening. The colleagues at VGC had the fun of listing the possible winners based on their overall ratings on the Metacritic website.
This is what the winners could look like
This year we once again had a large selection of games and series that impressed both consumers and critics. However, the winners at the Game Awards do not have to correspond to the titles that received the most praise. The winners of the individual awards are determined by the jury's opinion, with a weighting of 90 percent, as well as one public fan votewith a weighting of ten percent.
However, media outlets that are highly favored by players and critics probably have the best chance of winning one of the prizes. Here's what the winners would look like if we were to go by the website Metacritic:
- Game of the Year – AstroBot (Metascore 94)
- Best Independent Game – UFO 50 (Metascore 91)
- Best Debut Indie Game – Balatro (Metascore 95 for Xbox Series X|S, 90 for PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC)
- Best Action Game – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (Metascore 83 for all platforms)
- Best Action/Adventure Game – Astro Bot (Metascore 94)
- Best RPG – Elden Ring: Shadow of the Earth Tree (Metascore 95 for Xbox Series X|S, 94 for PS5 and 92 for PC)
- Best Fighting Game – Tekken 8 (Metascore 91 for PC, 90 for PS5 and 89 for Xbox Series X|S)
- Best Family Game – Astro Bot (Metascore 94)
- Best Sim/Strategy Game – Unicorn Overlord (Metascore 89 for Nintendo Switch, 87 for Xbox Series X|S and 86 for PS5)
- Best Sports/Racing Game – WWE 2K24 (Metascore 83 for Xbox Series X|S, 81 for PS5 and 78 for PC)
- Best Multiplayer Game – Tekken 8 (Metascore 91 for PC, 90 for PS5 and 89 for Xbox Series X|S)
- Best Mobile Game – Balatro (Metascore 95 for Xbox Series X|S, 90 for PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC)
- Best VR/AR Game – Asgard's Wrath 2 (Metascore 86)
- Best Narrative – Metaphor: ReFantazio (Metascore 94 for PS5, 92 for Xbox Series X|S and PC)
- Best Art Direction – Astro Bot (Metascore 94)
- Best Adaptation – Arcane (Metascore 86)
It starts next week
The Game Awards 2024 will take place on the night of December 12th to 13th. For German viewers, the pre-show starts at 1:30 a.m.
Sony Interactive Entertainment tops the list of publishers with the most nominations this year. The company has a total of 16 possible prizes. This is followed by Square Enix and Xbox with twelve nominations each and Sega with eleven nominations.
