Omega has introduced a new James Bond watch and is writing a little piece of franchise history.

For the first time, an official Bond watch without a film

The Swiss luxury brand is now selling the Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph 007 First Light. The special: For the first time in more than 30 years, an official Bond watch is based not on a movie but on a video game.

The watch is based on the model worn by the young James Bond in the game 007 First Light. When the game was first introduced, attentive fans and watch lovers immediately noticed the new design on the secret agent’s wrist. At that time, however, the watch only existed digitally. Now Omega has it virtual template into a real product transformed.

Visually, the special edition is based closely on the existing Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph. However, some details distinguish it from the regular model. The 9-carat bronze gold accents are particularly striking. They can be found, among other things, on the ring of the hour and minute subdial as well as on the second hand. This means that the watch takes up the color world of 007 First Light and stands out from the otherwise rather monochrome standard version.

The clock for 007 First Light costs as much as a small car

There is also the inscription 007 First Light on the sapphire crystal back of the watch. At the same time, the movement remains visible through the transparent back. Technically, the special edition largely corresponds to the well-known series model.

However, getting started in this form of bond marketing is not cheap. The Seamaster Diver 300M First Light costs 9,100 euros. This puts the model at the same price level as the regular Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph. For many fans, the watch may still be far too expensive.

The release marks an interesting moment for the Bond brand. Since GoldenEye in 1995 James Bond officially wears Omega watches. At that time, the brand replaced Rolex as the secret agent’s preferred timepiece. The last special Bond watch to date was released at the start of No Time To Die, Daniel Craig’s farewell film as 007.

There is currently neither an announced new Bond film nor an officially confirmed successor as the new James Bond. It is all the more remarkable that Omega is tying the next big Bond watch to the reinterpretation of the character in the video game sector.

Other luxury watch manufacturers are also increasingly discovering this market for themselves. Hamilton, also part of the Swatch Group, recently collaborated with games such as Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Resident Evil Requiem and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The Watch for RE Requiem Incidentally, it costs 2,095 euros. The boundaries between gaming, film and luxury products are becoming increasingly blurred.
