In 2024, numerous studios and publishers had to make layoffs. The “Elden Ring” makers at FromSoftware are taking a different approach. As the studio announced, several new employees will be hired in the next few weeks.
As experts already predictedlayoffs and cost-cutting measures in the video game industry have continued consistently in recent weeks and months.
For example, layoffs have recently occurred at Bungiethe studio behind “Destiny2”or the Developers of Ballistic Moonwho are currently working on a new edition of the horror title “Until Dawn” Ready at Dawn was hit particularly hard recently, as the makers of “The Order: 1886” completely were closedFromSoftware is currently providing a welcome exception in an industry hit by austerity measures.
Like the studio behind acclaimed titles like “Elden Ring” or “Bloodborne” announced that those responsible are preparing extensive recruitment.
New developers are also being hired
According to the announcement from FromSoftware, the studio is hiring new employees in the area of marketing and promotion. But FromSoftware also wants to hire an unspecified number of developers.
The studio plans to provide further details about the new wave of recruitment in due course.
It is still unclear what FromSoftware is currently working on. A few weeks after the release the successful “Shadow of the Erdtree” expansion to “Elden Ring” indicated a job advertisement from the studio quite obvious on a new offshoot of the “Armored Core” series there.
The rumors about a new “Armored Core” were confirmed by Hidetaka Miyazaki at the beginning of the year. The president of FromSoftware stated in February his wish for a new part in the series.
This is why FromSoftware is refraining from layoffs
While a number of studios and publishers have laid off hundreds of employees this year, FromSoftware is taking a different approach. In an interview conducted in June, Hidetaka Miyazaki pointed out that the management of the “Elden Ring” makers is deliberately refraining from layoffs and wants to avoid them at all costs.
According to the president of FromSoftware, developers can only achieve their best creative performance if their jobs are secure.
“I think it was former Nintendo President Iwata-san who said, 'Those who are afraid of losing their jobs are afraid of doing good things.' I'm paraphrasing that, but I completely share that view,” said Miyazaki at the time.
“I think it's true. And I think the people at Kadokawa, our parent company, understand that I hold that view very strongly.”
