Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves details its gameplay mechanics – News

You should first know that if Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will have a Super bar to launch fireballs the size of a Twingo, each character will also have to deal with the REV gauge, which looks very similar to a speed dial. And for good reason: its little name refers to the revolutions per minute of an engine. Certain techniques (detailed later) gradually fill this REV gauge, while hitting the opponent or making a perfect parry slightly reduces its content. If the REV gauge hits the ceiling, your character goes into burnout (like any JV journalist) and finds himself slower, deprived of his best tools, and vulnerable even on guard. Blocking attacks will slowly decrease a guard gauge until it explodes.

However, the game is worth it. The REV gauge is used in particular to launch improved EX special attacks, but also to chain them together instantly in the style of King of Fighters XIII. By maintaining R1, you can also initiate a REV Guard, an improved defense which gradually increases the gauge but allows you to gain distance with each hit received to get out of a delicate situation. And it's not over. Before each match, players will have to define their SPG, the “Selective Potential Gear”. This phase can be assigned to the first, second or last third of your life bar. As long as you are in the SPG zone, you hit harder and can launch a REV Blow, a special move that is impervious to enemy attacks like Drive Impact from Street Fighter 6. But its use remains more complicated.

SNK ends the owner's turn with some subsidiary mechanics to tear your hair out in style, such as “Braking”, an emergency braking to shorten the recovery time of our special moves. You will have to tie knots in your knuckles to brake at the right time and string together improbable combos. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will also include perfect parries, to be performed at the correct frame, with the possibility of counterattacking more forcefully. Finally, note that the Japanese company is keeping up with the times with simplified optional controls, always in the spirit of Street Fighter 6 and others.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series in early 2025. All the details can be found on the official site.
