Fans are thrilled as a beloved hero gets the star treatment in the latest DCU release, but trouble is on the horizon

The DCU is betting very, very big on this new hero who is now very popular. The projects are coming together and it looks very promising for the future.

We now know that the DCU has changed hands. Now it's James Gunn and Peter Safran who have taken over with new ideas, new projects and new heroes. It will all start with the next film Superman, and yes without Henry Cavill (we rub salt in the wound, I know). However, during the transition, several films and series were launched and/or in progress. If some, like Aquaman 2 or even the terrible The Flashwill, fortunately, have no sequel, another hero could well make his comeback soon.

The DCU is betting very big on its new favorite hero

During the summer of 2023, a hero unknown to the general public was entitled to his feature film, Blue Beetle. A mix of Spider-Man and Iron Man, the film had us follow a teenager who, by force of circumstances, becomes the host of an ultra-sophisticated machine, a “living” suit offering him incredible skills. The film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto and carried by Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai), met with small success and mixed reviews. Neither good nor fundamentally bad, entertaining and at best promising for the future. And the rest is coming.

Yes, the fresh-faced superhero isn't buried with the rest of the old DCU. Like Peacemaker, there will indeed be an after. Deadline has indeed had confirmation that a series Blue Beetle, visibly in animation, will soon be under construction. At the helm, we will find the director and the screenwriter of the film who will take on the role of executive producers while it is Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) and Cristian Martinez (Good Trouble) who will take care of the role of showrunner, director and screenwriter. For the moment, even though everyone has been at work since the beginning of 2024, the series is only just beginning. At the moment, we don't even know if Xolo will reprise the role or not.

Deadline, however, claims that the series will follow in the footsteps of the 2023 film and could even be anchored in the new DCU imagined by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Too early to tell, but one thing is certain, Blue Beetle will return soon. There are rumors that he would even be entitled to a second film. Definitely, DC is betting big on this new hero who was able to bring a breath of fresh air to a cinematic universe that was in decline.
