Speaking to Kinda Funny, Howard expressed his belief that much of the Fallout series' identity comes from “American naivety.” Therefore, the developers are following a clear plan regarding the stories to be told and the setting.

The focus remains on the USA

“My view is that part of the nature of Fallout lies in American naivety. So it's okay for us to acknowledge these other areas. But our plan is to continue to stay in the USA. In no world do I feel the need to answer everything,” Howard continued.

“It's okay to leave secrets or questions unanswered… In my opinion, those are good things. Everyone specifically wants to go to these other countries. I have been known to say that the worst thing you can do with mysterious lands is to reveal their secret.”

“Just let the mysterious lands remain mysterious,” added the game director.

Another project in the works besides Fallout 5?

While Windows Central's Jez Corden has learned that Microsoft may want to speed up development on “Fallout 5,” Howard hinted at work on another “Fallout” title in a recent interview. He spoke in detail about two unspecified projects.

The first title will almost certainly be “Fallout 5”. However, Howard did not go into any further detail and simply expressed his wish to achieve the highest possible quality standard in the future.

Howard further explained that those responsible at Bethesda Softworks are looking for ways to increase their output or reduce the time it takes to develop games.

“They take a really long time, and so I think one of the things we're focused on here is obviously making sure they're of the highest quality, but also finding ways to increase our output,” said Howard.
