Fallout 4's next-gen update brings its share of new issues – News

If the update does offer the possibility for PS5 and Xbox Series players to choose between Performance and Quality modes, the first named targeting 60 frames per second and scaling to 4K, the PC community is somewhat perplexed since the patch was deployed. Not only are most players struggling to see any technical improvements after this 14.4 GB download, but the support for wide and ultra-wide screens clearly needs to be reviewed as the interface finds itself stretched in an unsightly manner.

More annoying, the update brought its share of problems which did not exist previously, in particular for users of unofficial mods, many of whom explain that they can no longer load their save game or can no longer use their mod due to incompatibility with the Fallout 4 Script Extender. However, these compatibility issues were expected and could be resolved in the future, while some players have taken care to disable automatic updates. Steam Deck users also complain that they can no longer change the game's graphics settings from their device due to the disappearance of the launcher.

As of this writing, the Fallout 4 discussions area on Steam is a battlefield which sees new complaints appear every minute that passes about mods, widescreen but also the numerous crashes that appeared following the update. Work ahead for the Bethesda teams, who will undoubtedly react soon by communicating a list of fixes.

PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers in the dark

On consoles, it is PlayStation Plus subscribers who find themselves harmed. Everyone who plays Fallout 4 via their subscription were unable to obtain the next generation update. Bethesda has confirmed that those who play Fallout 4 on their PlayStation 5 via the games catalog as a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscriber will have access to the update soon. On the other hand, the publisher boot in touch concerning PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers who have downloaded Fallout 4 via the PlayStation Plus Collection (disappeared in May 2023). The situation is reminiscent of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, where PlayStation Plus subscribers had to wait 6 months before finally being able to download the free PS5 update. No problems to report, however, for Xbox players, Game Pass subscribers or not, who have all received their update.
