Exploring FromSoftware’s Response to 23 Million Arguments

“Elden Ring,” released two years ago, attracted millions of players, which should pave the way for a sequel. However, FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki is cautious about the sequel possibilities. And a second DLC was also discussed.

“Shadow of the Erdtree” will be released in June. But what follows after that? A sequel? A second DLC?

“Elden Ring” is a huge success for FromSoftware. The action RPG launched in the West by Bandai Namco now has 23 million sales. This puts the title in the league of the really big blockbusters, which repeatedly raises the question of a successor.

It’s a topic that FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki addressed in a conversation with IGN assumed.

Elden Ring 2 or second DLC?

Miyazaki was open to a successor and pointed out that one should “never say never”. The developer is also not talking about a “temporary end to the Elden Ring saga”.

The president compared the situation to “Dark Souls 3.” They didn’t want to “simply squash or put a stop to” the opportunities that were available at the time.

“And it’s a similar story with Elden Ring,” said Miyazaki. “We don’t want to discourage the possibilities for that. There may be more ideas in the future.”

First, the team is focused on releasing “Shadow of the Erdtree,” the first expansion for “Eden Ring.” With a price of at least 39.99 euros – the Collector's Edition even costs 249.99 euros – the DLC approaches the scale of a full game. FromSoftware also promises quite a bit in terms of content.

But will there be a second DLC of this kind after “Shadow of the Erdtree”? Such rumors have arisen several times in the past.

According to Miyazaki, there are “currently no plans for a second DLC or sequel.” But the team “doesn’t want to completely rule out this possibility.”

Sequels are part of FromSoftware's history. Several parts of “Dark Souls” and “Armored Core” were released. Other games like “Bloodborne” remained individual works. But the head of the studio also commented on this IP this week:

First of all, eyes are on “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree”. The expansion didn't just get an appointment yesterday. Also fans can start a trailer.
