Exciting Update for the Upcoming Game

Tomb Raider could return sooner than expected. Things are seriously getting underway around the license and are giving us a glimpse of the best. We could well see Lara again sooner than expected!

To say that the next Tomb Raider is eagerly awaited by fans of the franchise is an understatement. After a trilogy which completely revised the history and origins of the English adventurer, Crystal Dynamics has left us somewhat orphaned. Aside from a mobile spin-off and a Tomb Raider Remastered collection bringing together the first three games in the franchise (and all the DLC) completely retyped, we don't have anything substantial to sink our teeth into. But it could happen faster than expected…

The next Tomb Raider is on the way

We know that a new opus is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics. If we don't know anything about what the next Tomb Raider will tell us, we simply know that it will run under Unreal Engine 5 and that it should satisfy all fans, whether they're the oldies who started in 1996 or those who jumped on the bandwagon in the 2000s and 2010s. However, rumors tell us of an open world game taking place in India and in which we could use means of locomotion on the fly such as a motorcycle or another parachute.

Not very reassuring news on paper as it seems to move away from the main essence of the franchise, but which could also surprise and create something new. After all, the shift made in 2013 was rather beneficial for the license, even if we are far from the success hoped for.

There is serious activity around the license

But even more than that, the American giant is currently in the process of reforming its teams around its new major areas of interest. We're talking here about its branches dealing with developing AAA multiplayer experiences and more, like New World, and now its teams who will have to help the Tomb Raider franchise get a new start. Where the franchise seemed to be a thorn in the side of Square Enix, who did not hesitate to sell it for a pittance to Embracer, the new owners and partners seem to be taking things seriously.

Lara hasn't seen everything yet and neither have we!

In addition to a new game, the license will also return soon with a Tomb Raider series on Prime Video. It will be directed and written by the talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and is expected to enter full production soon. Furthermore, numerous rumors, from the same sources who had spilled the beans about the series at the time, claimed that Tomb Raider would soon have the right to an entire universe developed in cinema and in series. Besides that, we also expect a new collection of remasters soon. In short, Lara has not yet said her last word.
