EVE Online – With the Equinox expansion, EVE Online relaunches the colonization of space

By giving players more tools to manage and exploit their territories, the space MMORPG EVE Online returns to the path of colonization while hoping to revitalize this corner of the universe.

There was a time long ago when CCP SeagullSO Executive Producer until his departure from the Icelandic studio, regularly used the term colonization to hint at the future of Eve Online and in particular player-controlled systems. CCP Games subsequently focused on other areas of his MMORPG, including several failed attempts to generate more conflict between players. Two coalitions now share the entire universe, putting more effort into neutralizing each other than truly confronting each other.

Faced with this observation, the Equinox extension is intended to be CCP Games' first step in revitalizing the zero security space. New Upwell structures will thus appear, making it possible to better exploit its territories while arousing desire and, above all, opportunities for confrontation. First of all, the installations linked to the current sovereignty mechanism will disappear, replaced by a dedicated structure. New anomalies will be available in star systems enhanced by the Sovereignty Pole.

At the same time, each planet will be able to have an orbital grappling hook, a structure allowing it to extract new resources necessary to maintain its territory. The management of its space empire should take on a new dimension with Equinox. The moons will become a source of passive income through the installation of a lunar drill, a step back several years. The use of clones will undergo changes, which are still nebulous, affecting the ability of the members of an alliance to project themselves into the four corners of its territory.

SKIN

The Equinox expansion will have other proposals, including the possibility of creating your own ship appearance, but also of sharing or selling it to other players. Long reserved for the game store, the SKIN ship switches into the hands of the players. We can easily imagine fleets flying with the same colors. The management of a corporation will be made easier following an overhaul of the dedicated interface, but also the development of corporate projects including automation. It will thus be possible to automate the ship replacement program, offered by many player organizations on EVE Online. The daily rewards will be further modified, now being part of a monthly course, different if you are a subscriber or not.

The challenge for CCP Games is to revitalize its main showcase, the zero security space with its Dantesque battles that can mobilize thousands of players. By colonizing and defending star systems on behalf of their organization, a player can truly establish themselves in EVE Online.
