In keeping with the cinema epic “Dune: Part Two”, Funcom is now presenting the first gameplay from the upcoming MMO Dune: Awakening in a showcase. There is also more fresh information!

Funcom is taking the launch of the long-awaited cinematic epic “Dune: Part Two” as an opportunity to finally announce fresh information about the highly anticipated survival MMO Dune: Awakening. The series of direct showcases has now started around the open-world game, of which there will be more in the future.

In the first 15-minute show, which was moderated by Soe Gschwind, a lot of new moving material from the survival MMO hopeful was shown on the dangerous desert planet Arrakis.

First there is the featurette called “Creating Worlds: From Book to Film to Game”, in which the developers take you on a journey to Arrakis. The overlaps between the cinema blockbusters and the upcoming video game are also discussed in more detail through interviews with Greig Fraser, the Oscar-winning cinematographer of Denis Villeneuves' current two Dune films, and Joel Bylos, creative director at Funcom.

Dune: Awakening – Creating Worlds, from Book to Film to Game

In this developer video you will get many more impressions of the implementation of the Dune franchise in the new video game.

There is also the gameplay reveal trailer called “Survive Arrakis”. Here you can see in-game scenes based on Unreal Engine 5.2, including colossal sandworms and ornithopters. During the course of the game you have to collect materials to expand your base in your style, explore the hostile desert in various vehicles, learn deadly techniques and skills from the great schools of the empire and, instead of just surviving, even radiate dominance.

The upcoming MMO will prove to be a mix of the creativity of survival games with the social interactions of classic MMO multiplayer games. You are given a lot of freedom and can set and pursue your own goals.

Dune: Awakening will be released for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but there is no release date yet. Via the official website www.duneawakening.com you can register for the beta.
