In 2026, the time has actually come. Then we will see a long-thought-impossible return to Middle Earth as a live-action film in cinemas. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to bring back some familiar faces alongside Andy Serkis as director and Gollum.
What happens in the new Lord of the Rings movie?
The title already suggests it. Apparently Gollum is the focus of the storyconsequently, the new Lord of the Rings film will take place before the War of the Ring, which almost automatically means that we will see some of the actors and actresses from Peter Jackson's previous blockbusters again.
Ian McKellen recently commented on a possible return as Gandalf, even though he no longer seems to have this role exclusively. Legolas actor Orlando Bloom will apparently return. The Brit confirmed that there had already been contact with director and Gollum actor Andy Serkis. An obvious problem was also discussed during this conversation.

This problem with the new Lord of the Rings film in the cinema raises questions
It has been an incredible 23 years since The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was released in cinemas. Accordingly, the actors and actresses nowadays much olderwhich is also noticeable in some people. This becomes a problem especially with the elves.

How advanced is technology now to bring well-known actors and actresses whose faces we have known for decades to digitally rejuvenate without being noticed? And to what extent does the facial expressions and acting suffer under this artificial rejuvenation treatment? If there is a Uncanny valley effect occursthe whole film would certainly be ruined. Since Peter Jackson as producer probably has the last word in this matter, the question arises whether he would offer the audience such a risk seriously want to take.
