Yesterday we reported that Disney had handed over its DVD and Blu-ray business in the USA to Sony. You want to focus primarily on digital streaming.
In fact, this deal could have positive side effects for film fans, as Disney is sitting on a stack of classics in 4K from 21st Century Fox, the studio they bought in 2019.
Disney didn't want to release the films
That happened: The Digital Bits first reported on Fox's film catalog, which Disney doesn't want to release. The studio has a total of 20 4K remasters of titles under lock and key and has no plans to release them, neither physically nor digitally.
The following Fox titles were loud Screenrant not yet released in 4K and could be among the 20 films:

- Cast Away – Lost
- Fight Club
- Big Trouble in Little China
- Behind the spotlight
- Brooklyn focal point
- The last of the Mohicans

This could happen: Thanks to the agreement between Disney and Sony, these previously unreleased 4K remasters could now see the light of day on disc. Now it's up to Sony to decide what comes onto the market.
We could also get lesser-known Disney films
As part of the deal, the Disney Movie Club will also close after 23 years Screenrant. This was a subscription service through which film fans could purchase DVDs and Blu-rays from Disney.
What’s special about the Disney Movie Club: These were often lesser-known classics that were not available on the market and were sold exclusively to its members through the club. These include:
- Cool Runnings
- Rob Roy
- The Herbie films
- The Mighty Ducks
- Darling, I shrunk the kids

The question now is whether Sony will decide to release lesser-known films as well, or whether these gems will disappear into obscurity forever.
Just this month, Sony deleted a streaming library, which caused an outcry.

What Sony does with the Disney licenses remains to be seen. Film fans may have a reason to celebrate when the distributor throws the discs onto the market. Or they are completely forgotten.
