Disastrous Fallout 4 Update for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Draws Criticism, Sparks Comparison to Amazon Prime Series

We knew that the series adaptation of Fallout was expected, but perhaps not as much: to put it simply, it was viewed by more than 65 million people in the space of a few weeksmaking it the second highest audience in Prime Video history after The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Bethesda has reason to rub its hands, the firm having been fully involved in the project to guarantee artistic and storyline consistency.

Moreover, this success served as a considerable springboard for video games: Fallout 4 suddenly became the best-selling game in Europe in just a few days, while Fallout 76 racked up over a million players in a single day (which is a godsend, considering its disastrous launch years ago). And yet, Bethesda still had one final updated map: Fallout 4's next-gen update.

The problem is that this update turned out to be more of a disaster than anything else. First of all, the simple smoothing in 4K and the increase in the number of frames per second is certainly beneficial on PS5 and Xbox Series, but many expected and hoped for a real graphic enhancement, whether in textures, 3D models, display distance or density of decorations. But no, nothing at that level.

Furthermore, it turns out that PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, who therefore have access to the PS4 version of Fallout 4, must ultimately pay for the PS5 upgrade. Here too, the pill had difficulty passing and moreover, Bethesda was pushed to start conversations with Sony to resolve the problem.

Finally and above all, it is on the PC side that the shoe pinches terribly: she simply “broke” the game. A mess of incompatibility with countless mods, the impossibility of using certain functions, the appearance of new bugs while old ones are not corrected, mass crashes… The experience is not only disappointing: it is visibly unplayable.

It goes without saying that where Bethesda could magnify its game and its saga, but also restore its image after the reception of Starfield and the seesaw perception of its policy, the company shot itself in the foot. Tall that, while the Fallout license is reaching new heights and millions of players are just waiting to (re)immerse themselves in the post-apo adventure of the fourth episode: we're obviously crossing our fingers that the situation will improve soon , if only to get back to normal.
