Developers row back after price shock for new game mode

The Battlestate development studio recently announced that it would only make the new PvE mode for the extraction shooter Escape from Tarkov available to buyers of the 250 euro Unheard Edition. There was then massive protest from the fans.

The outcry in the community was so great that Battlestate is now rowing back – and making a 180 degree turn. Now the PvE mode should appear for everyone.

New statement from the Battlestate boss

On Reddit Battlestate boss Nik Buyanov spoke up, apparently surprised by the harsh criticism:

First of all, I want to say that I'm sorry that fans and the entire community feel this way. Unfortunately, I didn't see such a reaction coming and now have to draw conclusions from it for future decisions.

One of these decisions concerns the PvE mode, which should now be made freely accessible to everyone instead of making it a feature of the high-priced Unheard Edition. However, due to ongoing problems with server capacity, access will be provided in waves.

According to Buyanov, this process should start as early as possible – but he does not give a specific date. In an earlier one Reddit post The Battlestate boss wrote that the mode would only be made available when the game was released. The shooter has been formally in closed beta for seven years.

Mod support planned for PvE and more

In his most recent Reddit statement, Nik Buyanov announced, in addition to the decision to use PvE mode, other features that will be added to the shooter in the future:

  • The PvE mode should receive support for mods. But this is only planned for after the final release.
  • The existing perks of the Edge of Darkness edition, which is also not cheap at 150 euros, are to be revised and new ones added in order to bring this variant of the game more to the fore.
  • Of course, new content, patches and more are also planned.

At the beginning of 2024, the developers announced microtransactions for the extraction shooter. This was not intended to be Pay2Win content, but recent developments surrounding the Unheard Edition contradict these statements.

It remains to be seen how the situation surrounding Escape from Tarkov develops and whether things can be smoothed over between developers and fans.
