A discount campaign made the horror film attractive to many users.
Return to Silent Hill is becoming a streaming high-flyer in home cinema. Despite bad reviews, the video game adaptation is currently conquering Amazon’s streaming charts. A double discount campaign is responsible for this.
Silent Hill film celebrates streaming success
At the beginning of the year, Return to Silent Hill was shown in cinemas worldwide and was literally torn apart by the press – and the audience was also not very enthusiastic about the video game adaptation. Horror films are still in high demand in home cinemas. Thanks to a double discount campaign, Return to Silent Hill is currently among the bestsellers on Amazon.
At the beginning of September, Prime users were able to rent the film digitally for 99 cents. At the same time, the purchase version was reduced to 3.99 euros – instead of the regular 13.99 euros (view on Amazon). Many Prime subscribers apparently took advantage of these two offers, which quickly catapulted Return to Silent Hill into the streaming charts.
The film adapts the famous video game Silent Hill 2 and is about how James Sunderland receives a letter from his late wife, who tells him that she is waiting for him in the town of Silent Hill.

One of the worst films of the year
As previously mentioned, the horror film received mostly disastrous reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes The film currently only has 18 percent approval. The viewer rating is also anything but overwhelming at 28 percent. The horror film currently has 4.0 out of 10 points on IMDb.
The critics’ verdict is correspondingly harsh. Criticisms include, among other things, the sluggish narrative, the unconvincing production and the impression that the film does not reach the thematic depth of its video game original. A few voices from the audience follow:
