Dead Island 2 receives numerous bad reviews on Steam because of Epic Games

After a year, Dead Island 2 is finally coming to Steam. The title was previously available on PC exclusively in the Epic Games Store. The first reviews that grace Dead Island 2 on Valve's platform are sure to raise your eyebrows. You'll never guess the reason for most negative reviews!

Players are fed up with Epic Games

Players get upset about a lot of things. Some people don't like the skins, others don't like the design of the main character, someone else values the company rather than the actual product. So everyone has their own personal priorities when evaluating. But Dead Island 2 fans are angry about something completely different.

You'd think players would be happy now that Dead Island 2 has finally arrived on Steam. Sure, the game received a rather mediocre reception when it was released in 2023 and only received three stars from us, but on the whole it met the rough expectations.

Currently stands Dead Island 2 on Steam on a “Balanced” with 65 percent positive reviews. The reason for the many bad ratings is that, despite the launch on Steam, players still need the Epic online service to start the game.

Many titles use this free software developer kit, which enables various multiplayer functions. Such as Elden Ring, PUBG, Rust, Warframe, Rocket League, Palworld, TESO, Mount and Blade 2, Payday 2, Sea of Thieves and Hades. And none of these games make such a fuss about it.

It seems to be the mere presence of Epic Games that is causing players to give poor ratings. Even some of the positive reviews don't miss the opportunity to talk about Epic Games.

The publisher explains what this is all about

Even the publisher chimed in with some reviews to make it clear that players do not need the Epic Games launcher to start the game.

“If you prefer to enjoy either single player or multiplayer with other Steam users, you will not need the Epic Games Launcher,” writes Plaion. “However, for crossplay with players who own the game on EGS, the launcher is required to sync friend lists.”

The publisher wrote to another user: “We would like to make it clear that the game does not require connection to a personal Epic Games account to play single player or co-op with other Steam players.”

Actually, there shouldn't be any drama, right?
