In collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment, the developers at Red Hook Studios finally put an end to the wait today. As the indie studio announced, “Darkest Dungeon 2” will be released for consoles this summer. More precisely on July 15, 2024.

One of the biggest innovations in the sequel is the fact that Red Hook Studios took the leap into a 3D environment with “Darkest Dungeon 2”. Nothing has changed in terms of the level of difficulty. Just like in the first part, this requires a strategic approach and preparations.

A turn-based roguelite adventure

In “Darkest Dungeon 2,” each expedition begins with you putting together a group of four adventurers from the heroes available. You then venture on a journey through a decaying landscape riddled with remnants of crumbling civilizations. The overarching goal: to overcome one of your past failures, embodied by a monstrous boss lurking on a distant, snow-capped mountain.

On your journey you will delve into the backstories of the heroes and face challenging turn-based battles in which every mistake could be your last. With successfully completed expeditions you unlock new skills, improved stats and special equipment.

New features include the ability to influence the relationships between characters. During each rest in the inns, the heroes can build relationships with each other. They can become friends, form romantic bonds, or turn into bitter rivals.

A team that respects each other promotes the success of your mission, while disagreements and rivalries threaten the successful completion of the expeditions.

The consoles will be released in two versions

“Darkest Dungeon 2” will be released in two versions on consoles. The standard version only includes the skin game and costs 38.99 euros. There is also the “Oblivion Edition”, whose price is 44.99 euros. In addition to the main game, the DLC called “The Binding Blade” is waiting here.

“The Binding Blade” enriches the dark role-playing game with additional content such as two more heroes, an exclusive quest line or a new wandering boss.

The console version of “Darkest Dungeon 2” will be released for both the PS4 and PS5. As a look at the PlayStation Store reveals, a pre-order discount of 15 percent awaits PlayStation Plus subscribers until the release on July 15, 2024.

With the discount you can the standard version for 33.14 euros. In the case the “Oblivion Edition” 38.24 euros are due with the pre-order discount.
