Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty: CD Projekt reveals numbers

As part of the current annual report, the developers at CD Projekt spoke, among other things, about the success of “Cyberpunk 2077” and provided concrete figures. But how much money did the title bring into the coffers?

As is well known, the role-playing game “Cyberpunk 2077” has an eventful history. The implementations for the PS4 and Xbox One in particular had to struggle with numerous problems when they launched in December 2020.

These were so serious that Sony Interactive Entertainment even decided to temporarily remove the title from the PlayStation Store. However, with various updates, CD Projekt managed to make “Cyberpunk 2077” a gaming and commercial success.

As part of the current annual report, those responsible at CD Projekt provided us with more precise figures. As the Polish studio confirmed, “Cyberpunk 2077” and the “Phantom Liberty” expansion released in 2023 generated combined sales of the equivalent of $750 million.

The figures from CD Projekt also show that “Cyberpunk 2077” celebrated its second biggest year to date in 2023 after 2020. Last year, sales were $206 million, according to CD Projekt's annual report. A development that is based on both the release of the “Phantom Liberty” add-on and the release of the major updates 2.0 is attributable.

But how much money did CD Projekt invest in “Cyberpunk 2077”? The main game had a total budget of approximately $316 million. According to CD Projekt, the development and marketing costs of “Phantom Liberty” amounted to the equivalent of almost 85 million US dollars.

Furthermore, CD Projekt said it invested almost $41 million in post-launch support for the main game. Including the technical updates that brought the console versions into shape after the disappointing launch.

The latest sales figures for “Cyberpunk 2077” come from last year. Here CD Projekt announced that the main game will be released by the end of October 2023 more than 25 million times sold. There was also the “Phantom Liberty” expansion, which found more than five million buyers by the end of 2023.
