The recent past has impressively demonstrated that video game adaptations are slowly but surely shaking off their once bad reputation. Among other things “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Sonic the Hedgehog” brought huge amounts of money into the coffers.

The “Fallout” series is currently causing quite a stir on Amazon. It is therefore hardly surprising that another well-known gaming brand will soon be implemented – “Golden Ax”.

What exactly is Golden Ax?

“Golden Ax” is an action game franchise that debuted in 1989 and quickly built up a large fan base. From today's perspective, the gameplay is quite banal: muscle-packed heroes cut their way through hordes of monsters in the fantasy realm of Yuria.

In addition to a barbarian, there was also a battle-hardened dwarf and an Amazon to choose from. A total of two successors came onto the market, which had, among other things, branching levels and improved graphics.

Golden Ax on Comedy Central

An animated series based on “Golden Ax” is currently being commissioned by Comedy Central, with CBS Studios taking over production. In collaboration with Sony Pictures, several episodes will be created to revive the iconic franchise.

No details are known about the story yet. However, it should largely be based on the game templates with a comedy approach, which is already clear from the cast. Actor Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”) will lend his voice to Gillius Thunderhead. Liam McIntyre (“Spartacus”) as Ax Battler and Lisa Gilroy (“Interior Chinatown”) as Tyris Flare also appear.

However, “Golden Ax” is not only being revived as a TV series:

The official press release does not say exactly when the series based on “Golden Ax” will be shown on Comedy Central. However, the first season will consist of ten episodes in total.
