Controversial Gift from Online Game Sparks Outrage

After attracting the anger of players, the Escape from Tarkov studio is trying to take a step towards its community by offering a “gift”. But the situation is still getting worse.

Escape from Tarkov is currently going through a zone of turbulence. Battlestate extraction shooter players were outraged after the announcement of The Unheard Edition for €250. And it's not so much its price that shocked you, but what this version contains. Namely exclusive access to a PvE mode while, according to the initial promise, this DLC should have been offered to owners of the previous Edge of Darkness edition. The studio tried to get out of it as best it could, but backpedaled slightly in the face of players' discontent.

Escape from Tarkov's PvE mode becomes 'free'

How can the Escape from Tarkov studio ask players to pay for a PvE mode? Well it's relatively simple. For the box, this is not additional content, and consequently, it is not part of the promise to offer a “free access to all upcoming DLC”. “DLC means additional downloadable content. PvE is a feature and a game mode. Just because you all want it to be DLC doesn't mean it is. This is the mode of the new edition of Escape From Tarkov » community manager Daniel Mavlyuberdinov explained. A justification which further angered an already well-relieved community. Faced with the outcry, BattleState provides a response.

If you purchased the Edge of Darkness Edition of Escape from Tarkov, PvE mode will be available for free when the game's network infrastructure is ready. “We have noted your dissatisfaction and have decided that the PvE mode functionality will be available for free to all owners of Escape from Tarkov Edge of Darkness Edition, when the server infrastructure [secondaire puisque le mode fonctionne sur une infrastructure séparée] will be improved to reach the required capacity » said game director Nikita Buyanov via Reddit.

The anger of the players does not fade

Are the players now happy? None and this statement only added fuel to the fire for several reasons. The passage on the network infrastructure was bluntly attacked by a user on the Reddit forums. “Your core infrastructure still sucks” said Ok_Professor1234. But what rubs some people the wrong way is that the studio sticks to its definition of DLC which excludes the PvE mode. The game director added this: “PvE mode is not DLC. In our opinion, DLCs are major additions comprising features and content that are released after the official release of the game. In the form of a DLC pack, like Scav Life for example ».

It didn't take long before the community responded. “You’re a f***ing joke”; “No, give me what I paid for 5 years ago”; “If PvE is a unique feature of The Unheard Edition, then how can you sell it? That makes it a damn DLC”; “Stop, everyone says it's DLC. It's not your definition of the term that makes it not a DLC, but your business model of m****” retorted several exasperated players. If that doesn't put you off playing Escape from Tarkov, the studio has also announced other offerings.
