Blood on the moon
This is nothing new, Zack Snyder loves science fiction and Rebel Moon was perhaps the opportunity for him to realize one of his lifelong fantasies (if featuring Superman was not already): create a large-scale space opera with a huge budget. The filmmaker therefore partnered with Netflix and after the first part on December 22, 2023, the second will land on the platform on April 19 (tomorrow, therefore).
The problem is that the entertainment giant wanted to make Rebel Moon a resolutely mainstream work: Snyder's original vision was therefore sanitized, but will indeed be restored through a “director's cut” version. Longer, more violent, more intense and even more sexualthe two Rebel Moon films will therefore return in a new form this summer 2024. The director recently took the liberty of saying more (via UNILAD):
The tone of the film changes a lot, because it's more intentionally over-the-top with the sex and violence. (…) I don't want to say that it becomes like a parody, but it's more conscious of what it is, because the violence is so crazy that we say to ourselves that it shouldn't be exist in a sci-fi film of this magnitude.
About 6 hours of butchery
Although he is accustomed to mainstream films, Zack Snyder is after all accustomed to violent films: in the past, 300, but also Watchmen illustrate this particularly well, without forgetting The Army of the Dead (and even Army of the Dead , his first movie). We can therefore see a certain… return to the sources.
As we told you herethese two director's cut versions will be three hours each and can be worked on one after the other for a Rebel Moon experience, let's say, complete and authentic. In total therefore, it’s a good six hours of film which are planned, which should arrive on Netflix in a few months, without a specific date at the moment.
By the way, Snyder also confirmed to Forbes “working on a third part, to see how far the story can progress”…
