The newest ones recently became Financial reports Nintendos released: The Switch has already been officially released 140 million times sold worldwide – and the trend is rising. It would be at least difficult for a successor to top the impressive success.
Nintendo Switch era surpasses combined profits from over three decades
The fact that the Nintendo Switch has developed excellently in terms of market technology over the past seven years is demonstrated not only by the fact that it is no longer far from the market lifetime sales the Nintendo DS and Sony's extremely popular PlayStation 2. The success of the small console can be better seen with a graphic from Twitter user Pierre485, who Milestones The Mario Group's current hardware generation makes it clear:

Since I've received several requests,
I've made another graph, this time accounting for inflation.
The statistic still holds true.
Cumulative Net Profit (1981 to 2016) = ¥2691b
Cumulative Net Profit (2017 to 2024) = ¥2696b https://t.co/3WTI9ZCvEv pic.twitter.com/PoMnolKeTY— Pierre485 (@pierre485_) May 7, 2024
A particularly large increase you could get around 2021 recorded – previously Nintendo's success was still in the hands of the Wii and the time when the DS was already considered an established system. The graphic, which takes inflation into account, also comes from the same source, which once again underlines how successful the Switch period was for Nintendo. But you certainly benefited from that too general growth of the video game industrywhich is now bigger than ever and supported by a global audience.
Although the current generation of consoles still seems to be very profitable, fans of the company are waiting fresh information about a successor. At least we recently found out like an official announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 – as the next generation is now called for the sake of simplicity – stands.
