Civilization: Reign of Power launched late last November.The servers of the strategy / simulation MMO will definitively close their doors on June 8, for lack of having been able to retain players.
At the end of last November, Nexon and the NDream development studio kicked off the exploitation of Civilization: Reign of Powerbased on the license Civilization of 2K Games.The game was presented as an “MMOSLG”, an MMO combining both strategy game mechanics and societal simulation, in which the player had to make his Nation prosper with or against other players on the same server.
And even if the license Civilization is obviously a popular strategy reference, Civilization: Reign of Power clearly didn’t find its audience.After only a few months of operation, the developer announces the permanent shutdown of the servers from June 8th – the game will therefore have been exploited for barely more than seven months.
To ensure players can continue playing until the servers go down, the developer confirms that the April 6 update will roll out as normal, both to kick off Season 3 of the game (a new campaign in which players will be able to compete) and to carry out a server merger in order to bring together the last players.Quite conventionally, the developer also promises a series of in-game events and the distribution of coupons to animate the game servers for a few more weeks.
This is not the first time that an “MMO” freely inspired by the Civilization license has struggled to retain its players.We remember that in 2016, Civilization Online (developed at the time by XL Games) had already been abandoned after only a few months of operation.Obviously, South Korean players are not very receptive to strategy in a massively multiplayer context.
