CI Games: Announces layoffs

As CI Games announced, the final steps of the restructuring announced in January 2024 are being implemented these days. You already guessed it: there are also layoffs (again) at the publisher behind “Lords of the Fallen”.

Already in January quit The Polish publisher CI Games is offering extensive savings and restructuring measures. As the official announcement stated, around ten percent of internal positions fell victim to this.

In a current statement, those responsible at CI Games pointed out that the final phase of the measures will be initiated these days. According to the company, around 30 employees will lose their jobs as a result of the final step.

With the internal realignment, the management team wants to prepare CI Games for the coming challenges of a changing market. At the same time, the publisher is concerned with “maximum efficiency in implementing strategic priorities for the future.”

All clear for all fans of Lords of the Fallen

“All affected employees have been informed of this proposal today and will be fully supported throughout the process over the coming weeks,” a CI spokesperson assured Games GamesIndustry.biz. In order to avoid potential rumors and speculation, CI Games also said a few words about Hexworks.

As the publisher emphasized, the studio, which was launched in 2020, is not affected by the austerity measures. There will be no layoffs at Hexworks either. The studio, which has offices in Barcelona and Bucharest, was responsible for the role-playing game “Lords of the Fallen,” released in October 2023.

Since its release, Hexworks has regularly supported the dark RPG with updates that include bug fixes and improvements. The update to version 1.5.36 was only recently released, to which you can here find more details.

Are you working on a successor?

Unconfirmed reports from January, Hexworks has now started work on a new project. CI Games itself gave us the supposedly decisive clue. The company secured the trademark rights to “Death of the Fallen” at the beginning of the year.

While the publisher has not yet wanted to comment on the matter, the well-known leaker “Kurakasis” says he already knows more.

As he reported, “Death of the Fallen” is in fact a sequel to “Lords of the Fallen”. According to the leaker, Hexworks uses Unreal Engine 5 to realize the project, which should lead to a visible graphical leap.

However, we will have to be patient for a while. If the unconfirmed information from “Kurakasis” corresponds to the facts, then “Death of the Fallen” will not appear for the PC and consoles until 2026.
