Call of Duty Black Ops 6: PlayStation and Steam sales increased significantly

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” is experiencing significant sales growth on PS5 and PS4 as well as on Steam, Treyarch reports. But what about Xbox consoles?

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” put one successful launchlike Activision-Blizzard announced shortly after the release of the shooter. The focus was on the number of players, who were able to benefit not least from the day one inclusion in Game Pass.

In an interview with the BBC Treyarch developer Miles Leslie also spoke about the sales of this year's shooter. He excluded the Xbox platform.

Sales are going through the roof on PlayStation and Steam

According to Leslie, sales of the versions of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” for PlayStation and Steam exceed those of the 2023 “Modern Warfare 3” by 60 percent.

It should be noted that last year's title in the successful series was less popular than expected. The metascore hovered around one Value of 56 which is also a result of the changed plans. According to reports, “Modern Warfare 3” was once intended as an add-on for “Modern Warfare 2,” but was later converted into a more or less full-fledged title.

Unlike the PlayStation and Steam platforms, Xbox consoles do not appear to have seen such an increase in sales, although that is an expected result of the day one recording of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” in the Xbox Game Pass is.

Global information is not yet available – although initial surveys from Great Britain, where the PS5 and PS4 account for 75 percent of sales, but the Xbox consoles only account for ten percent.

The other numbers are summarized in the following message:

The UK figures also show that sales of the Xbox version of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” fell by 67 percent compared to “Modern Warfare 3,” a contrasting trend compared to PlayStation and Steam.

What is crucial here is whether using the shooter via Game Pass will result in higher membership numbers in the long term, otherwise the calculation will not work. In the UK, sales across platforms were down 46 percent compared to “Modern Warfare 3” and 15 percent compared to “Modern Warfare 2.” This is the gap that the hoped-for Game Pass growth will ultimately have to fill.

According to Treyarch developer Miles Leslie, the Xbox Game Pass ultimately found that it brought former players back to the shooter: “We found that people who were perhaps undecided may have experienced friction or said that they haven't played it in a long time “It made it possible for us to actually come back and try the game.”
