Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: Is the game actually coming to PS4 and Xbox One?

As soon as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is official, some information is leaking out and the latest leak apparently concerns the old platforms.

One thing is certain: the next installment of Activision's money-making machine is called Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and will be presented at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, with its own Direct show afterwards. However, apart from the announcement itself, there is currently hardly any official information.

However, a leak has now surfaced that appears to come from GameStop and it is quite surprising. Apparently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will also be released for the old PS4 and Xbox One consoles, but will cost the same as the versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Activision does not seem to be ready to leave the old platforms yet, even though the newer consoles will have been established for four years by the time they are released in the fall.

The source of the information is a photo that was posted on the well-known CoD channel CharlieIntel and apparently originates from GameStop's data system.

It lists versions for PS4 and Xbox One for $69.99 each. According to Insider Gaming, the information is accurate and Kotako also claims to have received confirmation from two GameStop employees that this data is currently available in their system.

As astonishing as this may sound given the strong sales of the newer consoles, around half of CoD players currently play on the old systems. Continuing to support the old consoles could therefore make absolute economic sense for Activision, but it confirms once again that the proliferation of the old consoles continues to slow down technical progress on the newer consoles, at least for high-budget productions of this kind.

There is also still a rumor that Microsoft will bring the latest CoD spin-off to Xbox Game Pass directly at launch, coupled with a possible increase in the monthly subscription fee. But this is officially unconfirmed, as are the platform details. We will certainly find out more on June 9th, when the game is officially presented.
